MT - 37 - Latent and masked defect ?

A defect that prevailed in the system for a long time but was not detected because the particular set of criteria and conditions were never met. It existed in system for a long time but was never caught in testing and all pre-release testings. There may be more than one releases in which this was not caught.

Masked defect are results of latent defects. Masked defect hides the other defect, which is not detected at a given point of time. It means there is an existing defect that is not caused for reproducing another defect. It clearly resembles that if any latent defect was there on the system which created few more defects.
